A few weeks ago I told you a little about the Superman Celebration held in Metropolis, IL and all the great artist and writers that we met. Well I got a surprise in the mail yesterday when I received a package from a couple of artist that we had fun talking to that day. I admit that I had already seen their work but I hadn't read any of it or knew much about the series that they have going called Dead in Memphis. from Blood Stream Comics. Well thanx to the team of Adam Shaw and Penny Register-Shaw, I've finally been given a chance to Look over a few tid-bits they've so graciously provided me. The Blood Stream TP was my first choice of read just because it's a TP and so I assumed a full story and what a full story it is. Blood Stream tells the story of an exotic dancer named Amber who is kidnapped and taken to a lab for some experiments. She's given a synthetic blood transfusion which kills all the other test subjects but gives our stripper pole hero a few side effects such as super human strength. Without giving away too much, our heroin escapes the lab to embark on her own little revenge journey. The story line is excellent with several twists and turns to smack you awake and the dialogue compliments the already descriptive panel of paintings. The flow of this book is fast with several childhood flashbacks to give you clues as to why Amber is different from the other test subjects. This story basically brings forward a new twist on the radioactive spider bite that Parker went through to become Spider-Man but using the mind as the key to the new found power does open up a door that could really expand the universe that Penny and Adam have created around Amber. This trade gave me flashbacks of Koontz's book Watchers which just so happens to be one of my favorites from him so I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Check out more of Blood Stream Comics here.
